9/11

#neverforget

Do you remember where you were when you found out about the terrorist attacks on September 11th?

I do. I was 19. Just walking into work at a promo house – my first full-time job. In the modern lobby were six tv screens right under the company logo. Each screen was a different angle of two planes crashing through the Twin Towers. Plumes of dark, black smoke rose to the sky. As horrifying as that was, what came next made my stomach turn. The image of the towers collapsing, knowing that there were still people inside – innocent people – is what rocks me to my core. Images of people crying and running away from the rubble, completely covered in dust and debris, and the images of firefighters and police officers and volunteers running toward it – encompasses the absolute beauty of the human spirit.

Currently, the sky in Los Angeles is cloudy, thick, hot, and full of smoke and ash. I can only think that this is just a small amount in comparison to the sky on 9/11. The overall tone of the day is somber, not on purpose, but it just feels right today.

Hug your loved ones close and let them know how much they mean to you.
